Celebrate National Small Business Week

Support Small Businesses: Celebrate Small Business Week

In a world often dominated by corporate giants, it's the small businesses that form the backbone of our economy. According to the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) the number of small businesses in the United States is approximately 33.3 million businesses.  Small businesses represent 99.9% of all US businesses.  Therein lies the basis for the statement that small businesses drive the economy.

As we celebrate Small Business Week from April 28th to May 4th, we reflect on the significance of these enterprises in driving innovation, creating job opportunities, and fostering vibrant communities. Started by President Kennedy in 1963, Small Business Week serves as a testament to the invaluable contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the nation.  Small businesses are led by dreamers who are committed to leveraging knowledge, skills, faith and experience to make their version of the American Dream come true.

Goals and Objectives of Small Business Week:

Recognition: Small Business Week aims to recognize the achievements and contributions of small businesses to the economy and society.  Small businesses have added over 12.9 million jobs to the economy in the past 25 years, as one example of their impact.

Education: It seeks to educate the public about the importance of supporting small businesses and the benefits they bring to local communities.  In this blog, we have provided easy and specific ways for you to support small businesses.

Support: Small Business Week endeavors to provide support and resources to small business owners to help them thrive and grow.  It is an opportunity to Raise Awareness.

Networking: It facilitates networking opportunities for small business owners to connect, collaborate, and share best practices.

Eight Ways to Support Small Businesses:

1.       Buy Local: opt to purchase goods and services from local businesses rather than large chains. This helps stimulate the local economy and fosters a sense of community.

2.       Outsource to Independent Consultants: When seeking professional services, consider outsourcing to independent consultants, accountants, lawyers and freelancers. Not only does this support small businesses, but it also often provides personalized and specialized expertise.

3.       Subscribe to Informative Blogs: Stay informed about small business trends, tips, and resources by subscribing to informative blogs and newsletters. Sharing this knowledge can also benefit fellow entrepreneurs.

4.       Engage on social media: Follow and engage with small businesses on social media platforms. Liking, commenting, and sharing their content helps increase their visibility and reach.

5.       Attend Local Events: Participate in local markets, fairs, and events organized by small businesses. This provides direct support and fosters a sense of community engagement.

6.       Provide Positive Reviews: If you've had a positive experience with a small business, leave a review on platforms like Google, Yelp, or Facebook. Positive reviews can significantly impact a small business's reputation and credibility.

7.       Recommendations and Referrals: Spread the word about small businesses you admire to friends, family, and colleagues. Word-of-mouth recommendations are powerful tools for driving business growth.

8.       Collaborate and Partner: Explore opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with small businesses. Joint initiatives can help both parties expand their reach and customer base.

Small Business Week is not just a time to celebrate; it's a call to action. By actively supporting small businesses, whether through purchasing their products and services, sharing their stories, or providing encouragement, we contribute to the resilience and prosperity of our local communities. As we commemorate Small Business Week, let us reaffirm our commitment to empowering the dreamers, innovators, and risk-takers who embody the entrepreneurial spirit. Together, let's build a stronger, more vibrant future for small businesses everywhere.
